Instructor Background of Dan Keys:

I have over 36 years experience in driving and equipment operation including 18 years as a licensed Commercial Vehicle Driving Instructor and 20 years as a member of the Sussex Fire Department. I am certified by the New Brunswick Safety Council to deliver “Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator II” (CEVOII) and the “Professional Driver Improvement Course” (PDIC), the VFIS (Volunteer Firefighters Insurance Services) “Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Program” and other related programs. Also, I am recognized by the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) as an instructor for the “Firefighter I & II”, “Fire Apparatus Practices” and “Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Program”.

In addition, I am qualified by the New Brunswick Construction Safety Association (NBCSA) to instruct their Safety Orientation, WHMIS, Traffic Control Person, WATCM (Work Area Traffic Control Manual), Manlift, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Lockout, and Trenching Awareness Programs.

As an instructor I have developed and delivered several custom programs to fire departments, municipal works departments, and industrial clients throughout New Brunswick. Some of the clients include; Oromocto, Coles Island, Hampton, Kennebecasis Valley, New Maryland, Nackawic, Millstream and Sussex Fire Departments. City of Saint John, Town of Quispamsis, City of Moncton, Town of Riverview, Town of Sackville works departments. Industrial clients such as Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (Penobsquis Division), Brun-way Highway Operations, The Miller Group (Highway Maintenance Divisions), MRDC (Maritime Road Development Corporation), Transfield Dexter Gateway Services, Techeat Ltd., Shur Gain Feeds, Havelock Lime, NB Power Commission, Atlantic Wholesalers, and Irving Woodlands.

I have also recently been involved in setting up and maintaining a Safety Program and ensuring compliance of OH & S, Environmental, Motor Vehicle Acts and related regulations for highway construction & maintenance projects. This involved health, safety and environmental issues and included training, maintaining training records, hazard assessments, site inspections, traffic control documentation, as well as preparing for and completing safety audits. (internal and external) among other duties.
